OVERVIEW
Moonligh白月光
Tea Origin: Simao District, Yunnan Province, China

Introduction

Moonlight White, also known as Yue Guang Bai“月光白", is a renowned Chinese white tea that originates from the Yunnan Province. This unique tea is harvested from the large-leafed Camellia sinensis var. assamica tea trees, known for producing robust and flavorful teas. The leaves and buds are picked during the night, giving the tea its evocative name. The leaves have a distinct appearance, with silvery-white buds and dark leaves. Moonlight White offers a complex flavor profile that combines sweet, floral notes with hints of honey and fruit. The minimal processing, which involves withering and drying under natural moonlight, helps to preserve the tea's natural essence and delicate aroma.

The production process respects and preserves the natural environment, maintaining ecological balance and preventing pollution and damage. It follows the principles of ecological agriculture, aiming for harmony between agricultural production and the ecosystem. While some eco tea gardens may not pursue organic certification due to scale and cost, their standards are equally rigorous. All our eco teas are licensed by Chinese food production authorities. Choose AllenTeas for sustainable and environmentally friendly tea.

AllenTeas offers Moonlight White at a competitive price compared to traditional tea shops. By sourcing directly from tea farmers and eliminating intermediaries, we are able to offer this premium tea at a more affordable price. This direct trade approach not only benefits our customers by providing high-quality tea at a lower cost but also supports fair trade practices, ensuring that the local tea-growing communities are fairly compensated.

Storage Tips

To maintain the freshness and quality of Moonlight White, it should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odors. Use an airtight container to protect the tea from moisture and air exposure. Avoid storing it in the refrigerator, as condensation can degrade the tea leaves. For optimal freshness, consume the tea within six months of opening.

TEA CULTURE

Moonlight, also known as Moonlight White or Moonlight Beauty, is a unique tea originating from the Simao region of Yunnan Province, China. Its origins date back to an uncertain time, though legends surrounding its creation add a mystical aura to its history. Moonlight tea stands out for its distinct processing method, which involves crafting the tea under the light of the moon, adding to its allure and exclusivity.

Unlike traditional teas, Moonlight is processed in a way that results in its characteristic appearance: the upper leaves exhibit a silvery white hue, while the lower leaves retain their natural dark green color, reminiscent of moonlight shining on tea leaves. This unique visual feature, coupled with its rare processing technique, has made Moonlight a sought-after tea among connoisseurs worldwide.

Legends and Stories

Several legends encircle the origin of Moonlight tea, each adding a layer of mystique to its rich cultural heritage. One popular tale involves the beautiful and virtuous Princess Nanfalai, who is said to have introduced tea cultivation and processing techniques to the Brown ethnic group, propelling their civilization forward. According to this legend, Moonlight tea was among the finest varieties selected as a tribute to the royal court, symbolizing purity and nobility akin to Princess Nanfalai herself.

Another tale speaks of the tea's name originating from its production process. It is said that Moonlight tea leaves are picked solely by young, beautiful maidens under the glow of the moon, ensuring that the tea retains a certain serenity and elegance. Furthermore, the tea is not exposed to sunlight during any stage of its production, enhancing its mythical status.

Cultural Significance

Moonlight tea embodies the rich cultural heritage and traditions of China's tea-making art. It is not just a beverage but a cultural symbol, representing the harmony between nature and humanity, tradition and innovation. The intricate production process, combined with the tea's distinctive appearance and aroma, makes it a cherished part of Chinese tea culture.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Moonlight tea is believed to possess numerous health benefits, including cooling the body, clearing heat, regulating endocrine function, and promoting beauty and weight loss. Its high content of tea polyphenols, polysaccharides, amino acids, and caffeine contributes to these health effects, making it a popular choice among health-conscious tea lovers.

Modern Appreciation

In modern times, Moonlight tea continues to captivate tea enthusiasts globally. Its rarity and unique production process have only added to its allure, making it a prized possession for many collectors. As the world becomes increasingly interested in traditional and artisanal products, Moonlight tea's popularity soars.

Appreciating Moonlight tea involves more than just sipping its delicate flavors; it's a journey into the depths of Chinese tea culture and history. The visual experience of watching the tea leaves unfurl in the teapot, the olfactory pleasure of inhaling its exotic aroma, and the gustatory delight of tasting its smooth, full-bodied flavor all contribute to a sensorial experience that transcends the ordinary.
